BIO

Hi! My name is Martin, an Oxfordshire-based illustrator with a love for bold, playful and colourful storytelling. I previously went by the pseudonym Nightmonkey, and while it served its purpose for a while, I feel like I want to connect with people through my art a little more personally now.

After studying Theatre Design at Birmingham City University, I worked in set and prop design, and creating large-scale installations and murals for various community art projects. Since 2019, my illustrations have been featured in Bandit Fiction, Dark Lane Books, and Short Fiction Journal, where I’ve collaborated with writers to bring their stories to life. This experience sparked my passion for editorial and packaging illustration, where I now aim to grow.

My style is colorful and playful, drawing inspiration from nature, pattern, and world cultures- particularly Japanese aesthetics. I embrace the unpredictability of torn edges and freehand drawing, incorporating printmaking techniques, collage, gouache, and marker pen into my work to create textured compositions full of energy and character.

When I'm not drawing or painting, I like travelling and discovering new restaurants and exploring museums.
